The pupil premium is additional funding allocated to schools on the basis of the number of children registered as eligible for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years. The purpose of the additional funding is to support improved attainment for children of all abilities from disdvantaged families by breaking down barrers to learning, and offering support in the curriculum and extra curricular activities.
Pupil premium funding is allocated to schools to use in whatever way they deem best to support children who are, or who have been, on Free School Meals, are Looked After children, have been adopted from LA care or have parent(s) in the armed forces.
The grant is currently £1320 per pupil.
Schools can determine how this money is spent and are accountable for the impact of the expenditure.
At Normanton Common Primary Academy the staff and governors are committed to the core belief that every child who attends our school can expect and will receive an excellent standard of education. We will ensure all our pupils are able to shine as individuals, able to make a positive contribution and reach their full potentional. In line with this ethos we aim to enable all our pupils to be resiliant and successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens. The pupil premium grant provides resources to support the school in achieving this aim.
While the evidence suggests that it is very hard to judge the impact of such spending in a meaningful way, schools are required to publish an evaluation of spending for the previous school years. Click below to view the Pupil Premium Strategy and review for 2017/18.
